GoodbyeSquid Moon

Cassini flew by Dione, a moon named after an Oracle. At the same time I saw a squid dying on fishmonger’s slab – communicating, as squid do, through the pigment on its skin. What was it saying as it died? Maybe one day we’ll know its final words. In the meantime, I put them in Oracle Moon Dion, it just seemed right.

The soundtrack is adapted from ‘Concret’ by Ianis Xenakis - written by him as a ‘transitional’ piece, to guide people from one place to another.

Kwan Storm #01

“To see a World in a Grain of Sand. And a Heaven in a Wild Flower. Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand. And Eternity in an hour.”

Kwan Storm #01, #02, #03. Each beat of my heart, in one hour, as Titan eclipsed by the Sun, in three stages.

There’s another eclipse here too - I took a picture of the sun through my hand and used the colour reference to visualise each heartbeat.

MisoFutureMoon

Cassini photographed Titan, whose atmosphere always makes it look out of focus. I was eating Miso, with some curious convection clouds. It made me think of my Grandmother, who read fortunes in tealeaves. Maybe if we look long enough, we’ll see what’s in store.

The music is a drone I made on my phone in E flat Major. It’s the chord that opens Wagner’s Das Rhiengold, as the flowing river spins the world into existence.

Cassini took this picture of Saturn’s rings & Enceladus as I was photographing cluster bombs in the Unexploded Ordnance museum in Laos. It was spring back home in London, where the cherry tree in my garden was in bloom.

“O Rose thou art sick.
The invisible worm,
That flies in the night
In the howling storm:

Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy:
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy. “

Three moons captured in eclipse, with visualisations of my footsteps on that day. I walked through Bunhill Fields, where William Blake is buried.

All that we know is built on foundations that are absurd. Things pop in and out of existence. Particles are entwined with each other across unbelievable distances. Future events can effect the past. Much of this truth was discovered by Neils Bohr, whose words I have adapted here, in one of a series. I discovered him on the way back from photographing what I imagine to be the world’s largest disco ball at God’s Own Junkyard.

after Cassini

Cassini crashed into Saturn on Sep 15th and the emission was over. So I’ve been making rings of my own, x1 pixel wide, and multiplying them (almost) endlessly.

BecauseWeWere2Many A collage of imagery from NASA’s Cassini Satellite, my avatar Brother Kwan and a red that’s derived from an eclipse of the sun by my hand, forming red multiplying alongside Saturn’s rings and the moon Enceladus, named after the opponent of Venus, so perhaps the opposite of love.

Kwan vs Mecha Kwan

Some say he’s a nemesis. Others a protector. Mecha Kwan is made from a found photo of sculpture of unknown origin and the headlight of the no. 38 bus that was taking me home.

GINA'S CATS

"We are led to Believe a Lie. When we see not Thro' the Eye."

My avatar, Brother Kwan, Saturn and my friend Gina’s Lucky Cat, as I overlooked Bunhill Fields Cemetery, resting place of William Blake.
